More than two months after working at the Phoenix Park Industrial Estate project, a group of workers are still waiting to be paid.

The disgruntled workers gathered in front of the Beijing Construction Engineering Group office in Carlifonia this morning demanding answers.

The group of 24 workers worked for a sub-contractor hired by Beijing Construction which is the main contractors contracted by state-owned Evolving Tecknologies and Enterprises Development Company Ltd to do the project in Couva.

But he said they only got paid one fortnight in June and was told by their employer that they would get the remainder of their money after the job was completed

Jackson said they “ban their bellies” and did the work, but now their employer is claiming that the main contractor has not paid him all his money

“He tell us the Chinese did not pay him yet and all these kind of things and the chinese saying they pay him. We are the men who were on the field working hard and now to get the money we have to fight for it, it not right.”

Another foreman Kevin Lewis who started the job in April complained that he has been struggling to provide for his family. Lewis said he had to get assistance from his member of parliament to get books for his three children to go to school

“I pleading to the contractors, allyuh please hear we cry and give we money. Christmas coming, we want something to eat too.”

Attempts to reach the sub-contractor for a comment were unsuccessful.
